How do you explain your first league defeat at home this season?

"In the first 20 minutes we looked like scoring. Then our intensity dropped and we lacked precision in the final third. Real Sociedad defended well and looked dangerous on the break. The second half was the same. They scored with their first chance on goal. From then on we showed enough desire but we weren't clinical enough."

La Real's goal was offside.

"I'm not here to talk about referees. You [the journalists] are always critical of them and I guess you will be on this occasion too."

You say that your team weren't clinical enough. Could Óliver Torres solve this issue?

"We hope that Óliver keeps on developing. But who does he replace? Koke? Arda Turan?"

Real Sociedad beat Atlético at their own game: on the break.

"They didn't create clear chances, but they took the one that came their way. It's about taking your chances and we couldn't turn pressure into goals."

What was the aim of playing winger Cebolla Rodríguez in the middle?

"He started off on the right, but we were dominating and lacked precision. I felt that we could solve that problem by pushing Koke closer to the strikers."

Atlético de Madrid's goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has beaten while playing against Real Sociedad the record for the number of minutes played without conceding a goal in the Vicente Calderón stadium in the Spanish league.

Courtois played past Abel Resino's impressive 800-minute record that had remained unbeaten since the 1990-1991 season.

Courtois' record reached its 820th minute when it was frozen by Xabi Prieto, who put the ball past the Belgian from an off-side position, nine minutes into the second half.

The goal also served to put paid to Atlético's clean sheet at home, that stood at 14 consecutive Liga home victories. Real Sociedad came away from El Calderón victorious, having won 1-0.

El argentino Diego Simeone, entrenador del Atlético de Madrid, señaló, tras perder ante la Real Sociedad (0-1) que no tiene nada que reprochar a sus jugadores, que volvieron a demostrar "voluntad", pero a los que le faltó "capacidad para resolver".

"El partido fue intenso en los primeros 20 minutos. A partir de ahí bajamos un poco en intensidad y no pudimos mover rápido el balón ante un equipo que ha demostrado que es peligroso. En la segunda mitad empezamos igual, pero en la primera jugada que tuvieron nos hicieron daño con el gol. Tuvimos voluntad, pero nos faltó capacidad", señaló el entrenador del Atlético.

Simeone, que no quiso pronunciarse sobre la labor del árbitro al ser cuestionado sobre la posibilidad de que existiese fuera de juego en el gol de la Real, explicó que el equipo no acusará el golpe de perder en casa después de mucho tiempo, porque "a partir de mañana" empezarán a trabajar para que esto no suceda. "Trabajaremos a partir de mañana para mejorar en los aspectos en los que no hemos acertado".

"Ellos no han tenido situaciones importantes de gol, pero han aprovechado la contundencia y a nosotros nos faltó capacidad para resolver mejor en la segunda parte y tener un fútbol más asociado. Presionaron bien en el centro del campo. Hicieron un buen trabajo y un buen partido", añadió Simeone.

Cuestionado sobre la oportunidad de concederle al canterano Oliver Torres minutos para resolver el problema de la circulación de balón, el técnico del Atlético de Madrid indicó: "Oliver tiene una buena proyección y esperamos que siga mejorando, pero para darle entrada en el primer equipo hay que quitar a alguien, y ¿a quién quito?".

"Nos ha pasado lo mismo que el día del Rubin Kazan. Sentí lo mismo. Lo intentamos, pero no pudimos", concluyó.

After the first defeat of the season at the Vicente Calderon in the league, Diego Pablo Simeone spoke of the efforts his team had made and how they deserved more. "The game was intense in the first 20 minutes. We felt that the goal was going to come but from there we lowered the intensity. We could not move the ball quickly enough and we weren’t accurate. In the second half it was the same but the first goal hurt us.”

After 14 straight wins, the three points slipped away from Atletico but they’re already looking ahead. "Tomorrow morning we will work trying to improve what we have to improve as a team. It will help us return to what we’re trying to do" he said.

Despite the number of chances Atletico had, the visitors hardly arrive in Courtois’ area.
