Preparing for King's Cup action

Mallorca up next on the agenda

Real Madrid were given a day off after Sunday's win over Zaragoza, but the players returned to work today to begin preparing for Thursday's King's Cup clash against Mallorca. Metzelder, Cannavaro, Heinze, Ramos, and Baptista did not participate.

As a result of their hard work on Sunday against Zaragoza, Bernd Schuster granted his players a day off to begin the work week. The squad, however, was back in action on Tuesday to begin preparing for the upcoming Cup tie against Mallorca.

The players arrived at Valdebebas at 11:30 and began their day with a half-hour workout in the gym. Once outside, a brief warm-up gave way to two groups of Keep Away. The football then came into action as technique took centre-stage in what was the first of two training sessions before traveling to the largest of the Balearic Islands on Wednesday.

Five men did not participate in today's session. Metzelder has missed the last two matches due to left plantar fasciitis and stayed in the gym. Heinze tore a left thigh muscle on Sunday and will miss an estimated five weeks. Cannavaro was also out with a sprained left ankle. Baptista (Tonsilitis) and Ramos also chose to remain indoors today to continue their respective recoveries.

NEXT TRAINING SESSION:
Wednesday 9 January @ 11:30 at Valdebebas. Behind closed doors.

Ready for the Mallorca trip

Metzelder, Cannavaro, Heinze, and Soldado sit out the final prep session

Real Madrid finalized their final training session today prior to flying to the Balearic Islands on Thursday. Bernd Schuster's four injured players were unable to participate in the strictly tactical workout, while Diarra is no longer in the Spanish capital after leaving for Mali and the African Cup of Nations. Roberto Soldado abandonded the session with a strained left thigh muscle.
Wednesday's training session began promptly at 11:30 at Valdebebas. Bernd Schuster's 20 available players began the workout with a light jog followed by a fitness routine designed by Jordi García. The football then came into play as the squad worked on short passes with their heads and while running.

The same men who didn't participate in yesterday's session were sidelined again on Wednesday, but Roberto Soldado added his name to the injury report after abandoning the workout with what has been diagnosed as a strained left thigh muscle.

Cannavaro, Metzelder, and Heinze didn't dress for training either. The Italian has a sprained left ankle, while Metzelder is suffering from left plantar fasciitis, which although isn't a serious injury, does take time to heal. Heinze will be out for an estimated five weeks with a torn left thigh muscle. Diarra, meanwhile, left for Mali on Tuesday to participate in the African Cup between 20 January and 10 February.

Baptista, who did not train on Tuesday due to tonsilitis, did work out with his teammates but will not make the trip to Palma de Mallorca.
