The Argentinian is a living legend at Barça. He has played more games for the first team than any other foreigner (424) and is the club’s all-time highest goalscorer (354). He has scored at least 40 goals in each of the last five seasons, and is just eight goals away from topping Telmo Zarra to become the highest goalscorer in the history of the Spanish first division.

These record-breaking stats all helped to lead FC Barcelona to the most successful period in its history. Since he made his debut in 2004/05, Messi has won 21 major titles: 6 Ligas, 3 Champions Leagues, 2 Spanish Cups, 2 Clubs World Cups, 2 European Supercups and 6 Spanish Supercups. And on an individual level he has won four Ballons d’Or, and three Golden Boots and has been top scorer in La Liga three times.

另据BBC报道，现年26岁的梅西去年2月才同巴萨续约至2018年。本周五在双方经过了长时间的谈判之后，双方达成了续约协议。并且，在谈判期间梅西也曾表示希望超越皇马球星C罗成为世界上工资最高的球员。

有西班牙方面的消息称，梅西的合同期将会延长到2019年6月。同时，梅西的每个赛季的薪水将会上升至2000万欧元（折合1630万英镑），此外还会有一些同球场表现挂钩的奖励条款。
