The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has updated the world club ranking that they compile monthly and Atletico Madrid has gone up a step on the last ranking. Atletico and is second behind FC Barcelona, top ranking side for the past 22 months.
The Manzanares team, with 298 points, is ahead of the Chelsea team that was in second place last month, and placed nine points below Barca. The third Spanish club in this table is Real Madrid, with 269 points in seventh position.
The IFFHS awards points for wins and draws in official matches in domestic competition, international and intercontinental.
The top 10 clubs, according to the IFFHS (from 1 February 2012 to 31 January 2013):
