The Brazilian centre back has recovered from the sore ankle that prevented him from training with the group this week.

Diego Pablo Simeone incorporated Joao Miranda in training after missing a few days since the match with Real Sociedad. The centre back had worked in the gym and had to pass through the hands of the physiotherapists team to recover from a blow to the right ankle. The Brazilian participated seamlessly with the rest of his teammates throughout the session, lasting one hour and 45 minutes. They began with abdominal work and coordination with the ball before proceeding with continuous running and ended with a game working on strategy for Sunday (19:00, Canal Plus Liga) against Osasuna in Pamplona.

The Portuguese player Tiago was also on the grass of the field 1 of the Sports City and continues his recovery after surgery on his right arm two weeks ago. Domingo Cisma was absent for personal reasons and the youth players Oliver, Manquillo, Saul and Thomas joined the group to complete this session.

El central rojiblanco repasó la actualidad del equipo y afirmó sentirse plenamente recuperado de las molestias que le llevaron a trabajar por separado.

Joao Miranda fue el protagonista en la sala de prensa de la Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda este viernes. El brasileño aprovechó la comparecencia para repasar los temas de actualidad tanto del Atlético como a nivel personal, en una semana marcada por su renovación hasta 2016.

Miranda pudo reincorporarse en la mañana de hoy al trabajo con el grupo y preparar con sus compañeros el partido del domingo en el Sadar. "Me encuentro muy bien. Estoy preparado para el partido del domingo. Un partido duro, muy difícil en el que buscaremos los tres puntos", asegura el internacional con Brasil.

El `23´ ha sido uno de los protagonistas de la semana en clave rojiblanca al haber firmado su renovación hasta 2016. "La renovación se alargó un poco por los trámites y por estar jugando tres competiciones. No era el momento. Ahora hemos podido firmar un acuerdo bueno para las dos partes. Estoy muy contento aquí", afirmó ante los medios.

La firma del nuevo contrato del brasileño se une a la renovación reciente de Simeone, lo que demuestra la continuidad de un proyecto que está dando muchas alegrías a la parroquia rojiblanca. "Es importante mantener el cuerpo técnico y a los jugadores para hacer buenas temporadas. Esperamos terminar bien esta y continuar por el mismo camino el año que viene".

Miranda ha sido una pieza decisiva en los éxitos recientes de la entidad pero demuestra su ambición ya que quiere seguir creciendo de la mano del equipo. "Espero conseguir más títulos. Es importante a nivel personal y para el Atlético. Mantenernos cerca del Madrid y el Barça demuestra que somos un grande que está peleando siempre por títulos", concluyó.

Following their first league loss at home last week, Atleti will be desperate to get back to winning ways against another of the league’s Basque sides after losing more ground to Real Madrid earlier on.

Osasuna are the opponents on Sunday evening, always a tough place to go despite the Red and Whites having won there two years running.

Kick-off in the Reyno de Navarra is set for 19:00 CET.

Last weekend in-form Real Sociedad silenced the Vicente Calderón, becoming the first side to take away points from us in the league since themselves last May.

The defeat also meant that we finally fell behind rivals Real Madrid in the race for second place, and their gap extended to four points on Saturday as they routed Manzano’s Mallorca in the Bernabéu.

Osasuna on the other hand will be desperate to win for different reasons. They currently reside just clear of the relegation zone, and can be expected to fight until the end in typical fashion.

In terms of team selection, the main news is that Atleti will miss the suspended Diego Godín for the trip, so we can expect to see Cata Díaz again partnering Miranda in defence.

The disruption of our centre-backs has been a common theme in recent away matches especially, and it has proved costly against the likes of Rayo, Athletic and Mallorca where crucial points were dropped.

Mario Suárez returns from suspension to add some much-needed depth in midfield, but Tiago is still out with injury. Óliver Torres also keeps his place in the squad, and Jorge Pulido comes in.

Before a more in-depth interview on Canal Plus last night, Simeone touched on Sunday’s match earlier in the week, and analysed the threat posed by Osasuna.

“They play very well in midfield and up front,” he said. “The numbers are always important and they are a team that have conceded very few goals. I imagine a tight game in midfield, with little space to play with.”

“The team that takes advantage of their chances will be closer to winning the game.”

The Argentine boss also highlighted the importance of bouncing back from last Sunday’s disappointment, as well as stressing that he still hopes to finish above Real Madrid.

“To have split Barcelona and Real Madrid through the whole campaign gives me great pride. Seeing what Barça do on a daily basis reinforces everything that we have been doing here.”

Also speaking was former Osasuna man Raúl García, who scored against his old side in the reverse fixture last October and lined up for los Rojillos in our 1-0 win in Pamplona last season.

“It’s the first game I look for when the fixtures come out,” he said.

“We expect a difficult game, it is a field in which the fans really help the team and Osasuna are playing well enough to fill the stadium, there will be a great atmosphere.”

“Our target is to get into the Champions League, and we will keep fighting for second place until end of season. We come to Pamplona confident of getting a win,” he finished.

It was the suspended Godín who won the match between these sides last year in Simeone’s first month in charge, and in 2010/11 current man of the moment Diego Costa was the hero, hitting a hat-trick in a 3-2 win.

With Forlán and Agüero not involved that day, the Brazilian showed the quality that we have recently started seeing on a more consistent basis, all three of his goals sublimely taken.

He will most likely start again in attack tomorrow, before leaving with Brazil for the international break that will see club football come to a halt for the next fortnight. We start up again on March 31st, when Valencia visit the Calderón in a crucial top four clash.

Raul Garcia returns to the Estadio El Sadar, where he started out in the top flight and where he played last season on loan. The number 8 says it will be difficult but is confident of victory.

Raul Garcia returns home with Atletico Madrid. He started out in the Osasuna academy and returned there on loan last season, where he played 33 games and scored 11 goals. He returns with the objective of getting a win to continue strengthening the claim for a Champions League place.

The midfielder notes that "it is a field in which the fans really help the team and Osasuna are playing well enough to fill the stadium, it’s going to be a difficult game to get tickets and there will be a great atmosphere."

About the opponent of the day, Osasuna, said "early in the season they were a bit weak away from home but they’ve signed good players and now look strong. I don’t think it's a game that we can approach like at the beginning of the season."

He acknowledges that "we all know it will be a very difficult game. Maybe I can have different feeling to other years. Yes I am saying that the team is ready and aware that it will be a tough game. Osasuna will be very strong. We are not thinking about relaxing."

The fact that he came through the Osasuna academy system makes these games special to Raul Garcia. "It’s the first game I look for when the fixtures come out. It is a game that, logically, you want to play in, you have many feelings and those who know me know that. It is an important day," he says.

After the first home loss, Raul Garcia says the dressing room is "trying to see what happened, trying to solve the problems encountered in the game, but we have not gone crazy. It is the first game we lost at home all season and we need to remember that things are fine. We go to Pamplona confident of the win."

The forward is very clear about the team's goal. He notes that "if we said it before, its more important now. At the end of the season will be the time to evaluate these things. We are fighting to get into the Champions league, which is the main objective of the team. And we want to keep fighting for second place until end of season."

El Atlético espera a Falcao

El Atleti ha dado en el último mes síntomas de agotamiento en su carrera hacia una gran fantástica. Las grietas han aparecido donde menos se esperaba: en la delantera.

La defensa del Atlético sigue impecable: no encajó gol en seis de los últimos nueve partidos y Courtois sigue rumbo al Zamora. Sin embargo, el equipo de Simeone ha dado en el último mes los primeros síntomas de agotamiento en su desenfrenada carrera hacia una temporada fantástica. Cayó en Europa y el Madrid le ha rebasado en la pugna por el subcampeonato. Las grietas han aparecido donde menos se esperaba: en la delantera.




Disimulado por la explosión de Diego Costa, acecha el bajón de Falcao. Tras su obra maestra ante el Depor con cinco goles, ha marcado el mismo número de tantos entre las doce jornadas siguientes (dos de penalti). Y como su vida es el gol, se le nota frustrado en el campo, a menudo ansioso. Con un mediocampo de escaso vuelo, el Tigre es la diferencia entre un Atlético que amaga y un Atlético que muerde. En Pamplona lo primero jamás ha bastado.

No es casualidad que fuera allí donde el guerrillero Diego Costa viviera su primer gran partido como rojiblanco, un hat-trick hace dos años. Pero entonces llegó por sorpresa y hoy le esperan. Arribas avisó ("ahora es más importante que Falcao") y Osasuna estará preparado. Haría bien Simeone en bajarle cuanto antes las revoluciones, pasadas ante la Real.

Óliver vuelve a entrar en la convocatoria y Pulido es novedad

Óliver volvió a entrar en la lista de convocados del Atlético de Madrid. El Cholo Simeone está muy contento con la evolución que ha tenido el jugador desde que comenzó el ejercicio, tanto en el nivel físico como técnico. En la pasada jornada Simeone fue criticado por no haber contado con el canterano en la recta final del partido contra la Real Sociedad, cuando el Atlético ya perdía en el marcador. El Atlético tendrá hoy recambios de garantías en el banquillo, pues además de Óliver estarán Raúl García, Cebolla Rodríguez y Adrián. Pulido sí que es novedad en la lista, ya que Godín está sancionado y su lugar lo ocupará en el terreno de juego Cata Díaz. Pulido estará en el banquillo por si Simeone cree necesario sustituir a alguno de los centrales en algún momento del partido.

Simeone está de aniversario, de celebración con el Atlético. El domingo cumple 50 partidos en Liga como entrenador del equipo rojiblanco. Serán sus Bodas de Oro. Y será en Pamplona, ante Osasuna, en el Reyno de Navarra. Luces, muchas, y sombras, muy pocas, han acompañado al Cholo desde que el 23 de diciembre de 2011, ahora algo más de un año atrás, se certificara su contratación como técnico del Atlético.

Un empate en su debut. A cero. En La Rosaleda ante el Málaga. Y a partir de ahí encadenó tres triunfos consecutivos: Villarreal, Real Sociedad y Osasuna. Era sólo el principio de un cambio transcendental en el equipo. Ahora, a punto de alcanzar los 50 encuentros, 28 victorias, 10 empates y 11 derrotas son el bagaje del Cholo.

Esos han sido los resultados que ha conseguido Simeone en el campeonato doméstico. Puntos que le han permitido una remontada espectacular que a punto estuvo de clasificar a los rojiblancos para la Champions League la pasada campaña -sólo faltaron dos puntos- y que, prácticamente, han asegurado ya su participación en la próxima edición de la máxima competición continental. A falta de 11 jornadas para el final de la Liga, el Atlético tiene un colchón de 13 puntos con la Real Sociedad, equipo que ocupa el quinto lugar de la clasificación.

El Cholo, además, tiene números de récord. Es el técnico con mejor porcentaje de triunfos en Liga en la historia del club de los que han estado más de 50 partidos. Por ahora lleva un 57 % de victorias. Luis Aragonés, por ejemplo, logró el 47 %.

Estos 50 partidos, no obstante, son el comienzo de una aventura, a priori, longeva. Quedan muchos más. Simeone renovó la semana pasada. Amplió su contrato hasta 2017, es decir, cuatro temporadas más.

Por ahí se entiende que, de cumplir la totalidad del compromiso, El Cholo se sentaría en el banquillo otros 152 partidos, los que corresponderían a cuatro Ligas enteras. Además, habría que sumar los 49 que ya ha dirigido, más los 11, incluido el de Osasuna, que aún restan para terminar este curso. En total, en junio de 2017, El Cholo habría dirigido 212 encuentros

Luis, el primero
Y, de ser así, se colocaría como el segundo entrenador de la historia que más encuentros ha estado en el banquillo del Atlético. Sólo le superaría Luis Aragonés, otro mito del club, que tiene en su haber 407 en las diferentes etapas que ha ejercido como técnico.
