After his men saw off Getafe on Thursday to book their ticket to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, Atlético coach Diego Simeone claimed the dull 0-0 tie was just what the team wanted.
“We played the game we had to, defending the shutout from the 3-0 at the Calderón,” ‘El Cholo’ told reporters after the clash.
“We lacked a little precision at the end of plays and we had chances that we could have resolved better in the final metres.”
Prior to finding out that our quarter-final opponents would be a Betis side that eliminated Segunda outfit Las Palmas, Simeone warned: “Whether it will be Las Palmas or Betis, they are tough opponents that we will have to be extremely attentive against.”
The Argentine tactician explained the last minute removal of Adrián from the starting line-up, who reportedly fell ill with a stomach problem.
“We expected to play with Adrián, who was going to offer us some speed on the right wing with Cristian ['Cebolla' Rodríguez] on the left one, and with Falcao up top to have a more vertical game,” he said.
“He could not play and let’s hope that he’s fine tomorrow.”
