Unquestionably we can not ask more from this year. It's been a good year, sportingly wehave won titles, we have been lucky enough to start the season in a magnificent way and everyone should be happy with how the team has started the season.
 
Of all the big moments in 2012, which do you remember fondest?
 
To choose a single moment is complicated. There are some very important ones such as the Super Cup, which was very nice, a great game and also the Europa League final against Athletic, which was another great moment to remember and not forget.
 
And to put a finishing touch, Atletico were elected the best team of 2012 in the Globe Soccer Awards. The world surrenders to the red and white.
 
We are honored that a prestigious awards like that regonises the great work of our club. And they also appreciate the great season that Falcao had by naming him the best player of the year. It is always appreciated to recognize the efforts of your club and I thank them for it.
 
When a year ago, you decided to hire Simeone, did you think that the team would change so radically?

Diego Pablo Simeone concedió una entrevista al diario argentino 'La Nación' en la que repasó la actualidad del Atlético y el cambio que ha sufrido el equipo rojiblanco desde su llegada al banquillo hace un año. El argentino no quiso posicionarse en cuanto al si el actual Atlético es el mejor de la historia. "El valor histórico de una campaña sólo puede dimensionarse con el paso del tiempo. El tiempo lo dirá, con una mirada más amplia, no ahora. Cuando me hablan de eso, yo prefiero responder que hoy debemos ser cada día más competitivos como equipo, afirmar un estilo y lograr que Atlético de Madrid sea un equipo incómodo para cualquier rival", respondió.

Desde 2004, cuando salió campeón Valencia, el título se lo reparten Barcelona y Real Madrid. Ese es un dato irrefutable. Ganan ellos y los demás quedan muy lejos, pero no es aburrida. Acá se juega bien y es muy competitiva, porque la lucha por el tercer y cuarto lugar es muy apretada, lo mismo que por el quinto y sexto que dan derecho a las copas, y ni hablar del descenso. Pero salir campeón... me quise referir a que es una Liga que les quita la ilusión a los hinchas de ver campeón a su equipo. Los enormes presupuestos de Barcelona y Real hacen una diferencia abismal. Es un torneo muy largo, y los planteles ricos terminan por imponer una diferencia, es inevitable. Pero insisto, me equivoqué al decir aburrida, debí decir despareja", explicó el técnico del Atlético.

El argentino habló de las claves de su trabajo al frente del Atlético. "Es muy difícil hablar de uno. Un entrenador tiene varias teclas para tocar cuando llega a un equipo, y creo que tocamos las justas. Es un club al que quiero mucho y traté de trasmitir eso, de afirmar un sentido de pertenencia. Logramos abrir una ilusión cuando el panorama era sombrío. La gente del club fue perceptiva de nuestro empuje y se engancharon todos detrás de una propuesta que exaltaba el esfuerzo, el trabajo y el compromiso con la historia y la estirpe de este club. La motivación interna la tiene cada uno. Yo, tal vez, la puedo despertar. Encontré un grupo golpeado, es cierto, pero un grupo de hombres", señaló Simeone.

"La posesión siempre seduce y emociona, pero si es la de España o la del Barcelona. Hay una posesión que es buena, y otra que es peligrosa"
El entrenador rojiblanco volvió a referirse al debate de la posesión de balón. "Hablar de posesión siempre despierta ilusión, fantasía, pero después hay una realidad. La posesión siempre seduce y emociona, pero si es la de España o la del Barcelona. Hay una posesión que es buena, y otra que es peligrosa. Creo que, generalmente, la posesión es más peligrosa que buena cuando no se tiene la jerarquía de los jugadores de Barcelona o España, que son casi lo mismo, salvo Messi, claro, el mejor del mundo. Hay que estar advertido de los jugadores con los que uno cuenta, y no intentar imponer un discurso por meloso que parezca. No hay que engañar ni mentir. Si un equipo es directo, criterioso y veloz en sus ataques, es muy válido aunque no tenga la posesión como prioridad", apuntó.

Simeone destacó el grupo por encima de las individualidades en el Atlético. "El Atlético es un equipo, y el equipo responde cuando la cadena de individualidades está a la altura. Nos necesitamos entre todos: Godín, Gabi, Arda Turan, Koke, Adrián, Diego Costa, por supuesto Falcao y los laterales, Filipe Luis y Juanfran, que para nuestro juego son muy importantes para ser agresivos". "El fútbol es todo; la mente, el corazón, el talento, y si lo conseguís eso te hace sentir indestructible. Tal vez por ahí se pueda entender qué ha sucedido en un año. Soy un convencido de que lo emocional mueve montañas, que sólo el corazón a veces le puede ganar a los presupuestos".

Falcao was regarded as the best footballer of the year in the Globe Soccer Awards


 Atletico Madrid is experiencing one of its best moments. The work the team has done this year 2012 is now bearing fruit. This Friday December 28th, the group coached by Diego Pablo Simeone has been chosen by the ECA (European Club Association) as the best team in 2012 at the Gala of the fourth edition of the Globe Soccer Awards which took place at the Burj Khalifa Dubai.
 
The conquest of the last two trophies won (Europa League and UEFA Super Cup) saw Atletico win an award in which Chelsea, Juventus and Bate Borisovwere also nominated. The trophy was collected by Miguel Angel Gil.
 
Furthermore, Radamel Falcao was one of the stars of the Gala. The Colombian striker won the award for best footballer of the year.
