A record breaking Atletico

The victory in the second round of the Copa del Rey is the 14th straight home win

 The road is long. Atletico started building their fortress on the banks of the Manzanares last season. It was May the 5th when Simeone’s men starting the winning ways at home after beating Malaga 2-1 in the last match of the season at the Calderon.
 
Since the 2012-13 season got underway, Atletico have given their fans a feast against Athletic (4-0), Rayo (4-3), Valladolid (2-1), Malaga (2-1), Osasuna (3-1), Getafe (2-0), Sevilla (4-0) and Deportivo (6-0) in the national League Championship. Besides winning, Atletico have scored 27 goals the highest scoring home team in the championship.
 
In the cup the rojiblancos have beaten Jaén and Getafe in the Copa del Rey, whilst in Eurpoe, they have picked up victories against Viktoria Plzen (1-0), Academic Coimbra (2-1) and Hapoel Tel Aviv (1-0).
 
In total 14 consecutive victories!

Unbeatable in the Calderón
 
Atletico beat Getafe 3-0 with two goals from Diego Costa and another Filipe

Atletico Madrid set another record. The win against Getafe in the extended the run of wins at home to 14 consecutive victories. Simeone’s side picked up a 3-0 win in the first leg of the knockout stages of the Copa del Rey with two goals from Diego Costa and one from Luis Filipe. A result with that see Atletico with one foot in the quarter-finals ahead of the return leg to be played on January 10th at the Coliseum in Getafe.
 
Atleticos tactical discipline allows made it difficult for the opposition. Getafe failed to beat the Atletico keeper, as in the last five visitors on the banks of the Manzanares. The Atletico defence was solid and allow the team to builds its attacks from the back. Getafe, as Simeone had warned prior to the game, are an improved team, their form in the league since the defeat at the Calderon last month has been excellent. 
 
 
The visitors started well testing the Belgian goal keeper inside the first 15 minutes and things looked to be against Atletico when Adrian hobbled off injured and was replaced by Raul Garcia. Things soon picked up though when a penalty was awarded for a foul on Diego Costa, the Brazilian stepped and made no mistake from 12 yards to put Atletico ahead going in to the break.
 
The second half started brightly for Cholo’s men who almost doubled their league only minutes after the restart, although Costa’s header was disallowed after the linesman spotted an offside. This did not discourage Atletico who continued to look for a second and ther dominance showed which just over 10 minutes left on the clock.  A great piece of individual skill from Adra Turan saw him find the space to fire in a shot from 25 yards, the effort struck the post and rebounded in to the path of Luis Filipe who cooly diverted the ball in to the Getafe goal. 
That wasn’t the end of the scoring as the hungry rojiblancos still had time for another. Garcia robbed the ball midway in the Getafe half and laid it off to Gabi who played an inch perfect pass through the visitors defence and Diego coasta was on hand again to calmly slot the ball past the on rushing keeper, double his tally for the evening and giving his side a 3-0 lead to tak to the Colesium for the second leg on the 10th of January.
