Albacete 1 - FC Barcelona 2

Barcelona struggles to victory in Albacete

In the first minute, Cocu opened the scoring with a fierce shot from outside the area that surprised the advancing Roa. Albacete threatened Víctor Valdés' goal with relative ease, but when they did, their lack of ideas was demonstrated. The reply came from a free kick that Ronaldinho smashed against Roa's crossbar. Nevertheless, Barcelona was unambitious. The linesman disallowed a goal by Oscar Montiel for offside and shortly after, Luis Enrique chased the ball to the edge of the area. Unai tried to clear it, the ball bounced off the leg of Luis Enrique, and looped over Roa's head. From chasing a tie, Albacete were now down 0-2. Albacete's consolation goal arrived in the 90th minute, scored by Pablo.

El Barcelona sufre para ganar en Albacete

En el primer minuto, Cocu se sacó de la chistera un disparo desde fuera del área que sorprendió a un adelantado Roa. El Albacete llegó a la portería de Víctor Valdés con relativa facilidad, pero al llegar ahí, la falta de ideas se evidenciaban. La respuesta llegó en un lanzamiento de falta que Ronaldinho estrelló en el larguero de la portería de Roa. Sin embargo, el Barcelona se mostraba poco ambicioso. El colegiado anuló un gol a Oscar Montiel por posible fuera de juego y poco después Luis Enrique subió el balón hasta la frontal del área manchega, Unai desde el suelo despejó, el balón rebotó en la pierna de Luis Enrique, tomando una trayectoria endiablada y superando al meta Roa. Un mazazo para los manchegos, que del posible empate a uno, pasaron a un rotundo 0-2. El gol del Albacete llegó en el minuto noventa, obra del canterano Pablo. (marca)

Kluivert forms a trident with Ronaldinho and Saviola

Frank Rijkaard prepares very thoroughly. For that reason, after thinking hard about who to start with out of Kluivert or Saviola, the coach seems to have made the decision to face Albacete with the trio of Kluivert-Saviola-Ronaldinho. In his hours of analysis and videos, Rijkaard has discovered a system to play the trio without affecting the team. How will he do it? He will sacrifice the right side and it will play as follows: Kluivert at centre forward, Saviola as a second forward on the right, in a slightly more defensive role for the number seven (but rotating diagonally with Patrick, so when one attacks, the other drops back) and Ronaldinho in the hole in the centre of the field. The alternatives on the left are many: Luis Enrique (the likely choice) Overmars, who has recovered from injury, and Quaresma, who the coach is also considering for the left-sided role. Rijkaard knows that Albacete will try to make trouble directly from the distribution of their keeper Roa, playing on the break. What does not convince the coach too much is that "El Conejo" and Kluivert share the centre forward role, with Ronaldinho in midfield. This inverted pyramid is easy for the rival team to combat and the system has not worked too convincingly in training. Rijkaard thinks that "El Conejo" is not a true '9' and for that reason he's decided that he will play as a '7'.

Frank Rijkaard tiene las cosas muy claras. Por esa razón, en pleno debate mediático respecto a la titularidad de Kluivert o de Saviola, el entrenador tomó la decisión de enfrentarse al Albacete con el tridente Kluivert-Saviola-Ronaldinho. En sus horas de análisis y vídeos, Rijkaard descubrió la forma para juntar al tridente sin que el equipo se vea descompensado. ¿Cómo lo hará? Sacrificará al extremo derecho y armará el siguiente dibujo: Kluivert de centrodelantero referencial, Saviola como segundo delantero por la derecha, en posición de número siete (rotando permanentemente sus diagonales con Patrick, cuando va uno por el medio, el otro por afuera) y Ronaldinho como 'enganche', unos metros más atrás, suelto por el centro del campo. ¿Y por la izquierda? Las alternativas son amplias: Luis Enrique (el que tiene más chances) Overmars ­si se recupera de la gripe­, y el propio Quaresma, a quien el técnico también lo tiene bien considerado por el carril de los zurdos. Como Rijkaard sabe que el Albacete tratará de hacer daño directamente desde los pelotazos del portero Roa, entonces le jugará de contra. Lo que no le convence demasiado al mister es que el 'Conejo' y Kluivert compartan la centrodelantera, con Ronaldinho de mediapunta. Este esquema de la pirámide invertida es de fácil resolución para los equipos rivales y no le ha convencido demasiado las veces que probó en los entrenamientos. Incluso Rijkaard tiene muy claro que el 'Conejo' no es un '9'. Por eso decidió que jugará de '7'.

Saviola: "With wingers we have more options"

The Barcelona players left the Camp Nou crestfallen. The second slip at home hurt the 'azulgrana', who has made a bad start. The Argentinan Javier Saviola admitted after the match that "It's clear that we failed in several things and we will have to analyze things in training, to try to correct them". The striker emphasized that "We have shown a good attitude and desire and we have given everything to win". Saviola admitted that "When we play with wide attackers on the field  
we have more options, and Osauna played a very tight game and it was very difficult to play through the middle". The Argentine did not seem concerned that Begiristain criticized the play of the trident and said that "They are his opinions and he can say what he likes. Everyone has a voice here, but we are the ones that play and we are the ones that have to perform well".

Saviola: "Con extremos tenemos más opciones"

Los jugadores barcelonistas abandonaron cabizbajos el vestuario del Camp Nou. El segundo tropiezo en casa dolió a los azulgrana, que lamentaron el mal partido realizado. El argentino Javier Saviola admitió tras el choque que “está claro que fallamos en varias cosas y las tendremos que analizar en los próximos entrenamientos, para tratar de corregirlas”. El delantero azulgrana destacó que “la actitud, ganas y sacrificio que hemos demostrado han sido buenos y lo hemos dado todo para ganar”. Saviola admitió que “cuando jugamos con extremos abimos más el campo y tenemos más opciones, ya que antes Osauna jugaba muy cerrado y era muy difícil entrar por el medio”. En vista de cómo se desarrolló el choque, Saviola incluso señaló que “el empate está bien, aunque espero que no echemos de menos estos puntos en el futuro”. Al argentino no le hizo mucha gracia que Begiristain criticara desde el palco el juego del tridente y señaló que “son cosas de él, qué queréis que diga. Aquí todos hablan, pero los que jugamos somos nosotros y somos los que tenemos que dar la cara”. (elmundodeportivo)

Rijkaard's team revived memories of the Barcelona of Louis van Gaal. El equipo de Rijkaard recordó al peor Barcelona de Louis van Gaal. Xavi estuvo perdido en el mediocampo, Kluivert no tuvo presencia en el juego, mientras que Saviola, pegado a la banda, fue el único que tuvo criterio en sus acciones. ¿Y Ronaldinho? Cansado de esperar el balón en la media punta, el brasileño se decidió a retrasar su posición para buscar el balón con insistencia. Los problemas fueron en aumento a poco del inicio del segundo tiempo. Fue un saque de esquina desde la izquierda que Cruchaga remató de cabeza. Rijkaard reaccionó y puso en juego a Quaresma por Xavi. La entrada de Overmars por Luis Enrique puso más efectivos en ataque y con referencias en las bandas, los azulgrana lograron empatar. Fue un centro desde la derecha de Quaresma que Sanzol despejó. Ronaldinho recogió el rechace dentro del área grande, remató, el balón dio en Izquierdo y entró en la portería. (marca)

Rijkaard considers the bench for Saviola

Rijkaard organised a training session yesterday designed to move the ball quickly in reduced space, to become accustomed to the tactics they expect to use against Púchov. However, the technician made some changes which may be seen in the starting lineup, in which he selected Rustu, Márquez, Andersson, Iniesta and Quaresma. The main victims would be Xavi and Saviola, who would be rested tomorrow.

Rijkaard ordenó ayer un entrenamiento destinado a mover con rapidez el balón en espacios reducidos, para habituarse al campo en el que se jugará ante el Puchov. No obstante, el técnico planteó cambios en el presunto equipo titular, en el que se podía ver a Rustu, Márquez, Andersson, Iniesta y Quaresma. Los principales damnificados serían Xavi y Saviola, a los que daría descanso mañana.

FC Barcelona 0 - Valencia 1

Valencia brings the first crisis to Barcelona

The beginning for Barça was promising. They played with Overmars on the right and in the first twelve minutes he made two good chances. However, it was Ricardo Oliveira who scored a spectacular goal from the edge of the area. Now behind 0-1, Barcelona began to have doubts and Valencia was much more comfortable. Luis Enrique was on the verge of tying the scores in the 59th minute, but Benítez reacted by putting a new midfield player into the game (Sissoko) and their players regained control of the match. Quaresma replaced Overmars, although the fans chanted loudly and continuously for Saviola. But the entrance of 'El Conejo' for Márquez, eight minutes from the end, gave him no time to create danger around the goal of Cañizares. Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season, had their second match without scoring and demonstrated that it has a long way to go to become a trustworthy team.

El inicio del Barça fue prometedor. Actuó con Overmars por la derecha y en los primeros doce minutos tuvo dos buenas aproximaciones. Sin embargo, el espectáculo lo puso Ricardo Oliveira, que marcó un golazo desde la frontal del área. Con el 0-1, el Barcelona empezó a dudar y el Valencia se encontró mucho más cómodo. Luis Enrique estuvo a punto de empatar en el 59, pero Benítez reaccionó a tiempo, puso a un nuevo centrocampista (Sissoko) y sus jugadores volvieron a hacerse con el control del partido. Quaresma entró por Overmars, a pesar de que el público pidió con insistencia la entrada de Saviola. Pero ni la entrada de 'El Conejo' por Márquez, a ocho minutos del final, permitió generar peligro ante la meta de Cañizares. El Barcelona cedió su primera derrota de la temporada, sumó su segundo partido sin marcar y demostró que le queda un largo recorrido para convertirse en un equipo fiable. (marca)
