INTER MILAN have offered Chelsea 9million to take Premiership misfit Juan Sebastian Veron back to Italy.
The Serie A giants swooped with Chelsea set to cut their losses on the Argentine midfielder who has played just 11 games for the Blues.
Veron is currently recovering from a back injury, picked up last autumn, and has not played in the first team since Chelsea's 5-0 win over Newcastle in November.
If Chelsea accept, it brings to an end a disappointing spell in England for Veron, who failed to make an impact at Manchester United during his two-year stay.
Inter technical directors Marco Branca and Gabriel Orali met Chelsea representatives in Monte Carlo earlier this week.
The Italians offered to throw in Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins as part of the deal.
Veron arrived at Old Trafford from Lazio for ?8.1m in July 2001. But he provided only glimpses of the brilliance he has shown for his country.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson accepted a ?5m bid from Chelsea last summer and Veron scored in his first Blues game.
Since then his impact on the side has been minimal and in his five-month injury absence Frank Lampard has thrived and Scott Parker's arrival has further boosted Claudio Ranieri's midfield options.
