Real Madrid get preparations underway for next Sunday's match
Real Madrid held their first training session of the week today in order to begin preparing for next Sunday's clash against Valencia. Last night's starters were separated from the reserves, while Robben worked out with San Martín. Raúl, Cannavaro, Metzelder, Salgado, and Van Nistelrooy stayed in the gymnasium.
The first players to set foot on the Valdebebas turf on Sunday were the reserves who didn't start last night's match in Riazor -Robinho, Marcelo, Dudek, Gago, Higuaín, and Baptista- as well and those who didn't make the trip to La Coruña -Ramos, Codina, Saviola, and Balboa. Despite getting the start against Depor, Drenthe joined in to complete a fitness session. Michel Salgado, meanwhile, remained indoors.
Under the orders of Jordi García, the players completed agility drills and suicides before stretching and various ball exercises. Schuster and Manolo Ruiz later oversaw a pratice match on a reduced-size pitch.
Robben recuperating
Robben worked out with fitness trainer San Martín on the adjoining field. The Dutchman was seen jogging at different rhythms and appears to be close to making a full recovery. It still isn't known whether or not he will be available for Sunday's match.
Several minutes after the reserves appeared, last night's starters -Casillas, Torres, Soldado, Guti, Sneijder, Diarra, Heinze, and Pepe- joined trainer Santiago Lozano outside to jog and to carry out different recovery exercises. Raúl and Cannavaro chose to focus their efforts in the gymnasium, where they were accompanied by Metzelder and Van Nistelrooy, who continued their respective recovery protocols.

Open workout for the squad
Real Madrid aren't taking any breaks even though it's Holy Week in Spain. Arjen Robben was seen outdoors alongside fitness trainer José Luis San Martín for the first time since falling injured. Last Saturday's starters spent the day in the gymnasium, while the reserves held an open workout on the Valdebebas turf.
Real Madrid returned to training today after having Monday off. Those who started against Deportivo last weekend -Raúl, Guti, Casillas, Diarra, Baptista, Cannavaro, Pepe, and Heinze- stayed indoors, while the rest of the squad worked out under the orders of Santiago Lozano. Torres, Soldado, Higuaín, Michel Salgado, Sergio Ramos, Robinho, Marcelo, Gago, Sneijder, and Drenthe began with a keep-away session coached by Manolo Ruiz. Balboa and Saviola, meanwhile, focused on strength and resistance training. Dudek and Codina joined Pedro Jaro for specific goalkeeper exercises.
Robben on the up and up
Fifteen days have past since Arjen Robben fell injured in the Nuevo Colombino. He was estimated to miss about four weeks, by which he could begin training with the squad in the forthcoming days. Today the Dutchman was the first to set foot outside, and he did so to jog and get some touches in with José Luis San Martín.
The other injured players stayed in the Real Madrid City gymnasium to complete their respective recovery protocols. Van Nistelrooy is close to making a comeback from a severly inflammed right ankle. Metzelder made great progress last week by taking his first steps on turf since undergoing surgery in mid-February.
The team will return to training on Wednesday to move forward with preparations for next weekend's clash against Valencia, the first of two straight matches at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Raúl and Robben rejoin the group
After holding an open training session on Thursday, Real Madrid were back at work today to continue preparing for the final stretch of the season. Guti trained without incident despite getting stepped on in yesterday's workout, and so did Raúl and Robben, who rejoined their teammates earlier in the week.

Sick bay has been emptying out all week. Raúl returned from La Coruña with a niggled left leg but again worked out with the squad today and appears to have made a full recovery. The captain was seen jogging and stretching and shouldn't have a problem making it onto the squad list for Sunday's match against Valencia.
Guti had his right foot stepped on in yesterday's session and was forced to abandon the pitch for precautionary measures, but the midfielder was back in action today and trained without incident.
Only two players remain on the team injury report. Metzelder underwent successful surgery to fix the plantar fasciitis of his left foot in mid-February and continues rehabbing as part of his recovery protocol. Van Nistelrooy, meanwhile, had arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle last Wednesday due to cronic synovitis.

Real Madrid host one of the Copa del Rey finalists on Sunday in what promises to be the first of ten thrilling matches as the season winds down.
