Van Nistelrooy on the pitch

The squad does physical and tactical work

The team had the day off yesterday and returned to training this morning to prepare for the clash with Betis. Van Nistelrooy did ball work for the first time since he got injured.
Bernd Schuster allowed his men to rest yesterday as a reward for their 7-0 victory against Valladolid on Sunday. The players warmed up in the gym and did some physical exercises and ball work on the pitch. Those who didn't start on Sunday -Diarra, Sneijder, Higuaín, Balboa, Soldado, Dudek and Codina- were the first to take the pitch with physical coach Santi Lozano. They jogged and did ab work-outs prior to exercising with the ball. The starters stayed in the gym for the larger part of the session, prior to tackling sprinting and jumping work-outs outdoors. Van the Man on the pitch
The good news was that Ruud van Nistelrooy -injured with traumatic arthritis on the right ankle- worked out with the ball with Miguel Torres, who was injured when he played for Spain's Under-21 side a few days ago. Sergio Ramos stayed inside the entire morning, doing specific recovery work in the gym.
The rest of the injured players also stayed in the gym all morning. Pepe worked on recovering from the tear on his right soleus muscle, Heinze continued with the recovery work on his left femoral biceps tear, and Saviola did specific work-outs on his double injury. Metzelder was the only player who didn't show up at Valdebebas; he will undergo surgery on his plantar fasciitis injury later today.
Ball work
Every player on the pitch exercised with the ball after the physical work-out. Everyone -including Schuster- participated in a practice game with four goals, during which even the goalkeepers showcased great skill with the ball.
