Road to recoveryHeinze and Gago on the fast track and Saviola finally sets foot on the turf
Bernd Schuster is hoping to recover as many players as he can over the course of the week. This morning Heinze, Gago, and Saviola were the first players on the Valdebebas turf.
Real Madrid are without ten internationals, but all are expected to return by Thursday in order to continue preparations for Sunday's clash against Valladolid. Activity continued at Valdebebas, however, despite the short-handed squad. So many players away makes for a great week to empty out the sick bay. Gabriel Heinze is on the fast track to kissing his torn left thigh muscle goodbye. The Argentine defender joined fellow countryman Fernando Gago for a forty minutes jog on Tuesday morning. Javier Saviola, who was injured in Copa action against Mallorca, set foot on the turf for the first time to begin recovering from his sprained knee and ankle. Van Nistelrooy, Pepe, and Metzelder, meanwhile, worked out in the gym. The rest of the squad began their warmup in the gym and then headed outdoors for ball work. Balboa, Soldado, Salgado, Diarra, Guti, Raúl, Codina, and Dudek were joined by youth teamers Villafañe, Giraldez, and Krzystof. The eleven men formed a circle and were joined by Bernd Schuster for a game of keep away prior to carrying out other exercises with the ball. NEXT TRAINING SESSION:
